Thanks to Mr. Graham Inggs there is now the ("unofficial") Ubuntu support for p4vasp.
To install p4vasp on Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin), do the following:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ginggs/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install p4vasp
Note, that you will need the root password to do this. This procedure only works for Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin).
This will hopefully make Ubuntu install much easier. Thanks Graham !
Unfortunately there seems to be a problem with this install - some menus in GUI are not available.
We are working on a solution.
UPDATE 2 - FIXED:
Graham found a solution and updated the ppa. So just reinstall p4vasp from ppa and it should work fine.
The solution is to configure menus to be displayed on top of the window rather than on top of the desktop. This can be done by setting the environment variable
